Introduction

The Scottish Business Insider Deals & Dealmakers Awards acknowledge and reward excellence in corporate finance transactions.

The awards celebration dinner recognises the bankers, venture capitalists, lawyers and accountants who initiate, structure and negotiate deals for growing organisations. The awards are based on deals completed by this community in the fiscal year 2019/20.

With over 600 people attending the event, made up of dealmakers, bankers, lawyers and event sponsors, the event makes for the ideal networking opportunity.

The dinner itself is not only an excellent opportunity to network with some of the leading players in Scottish dealmaking; it is also a highly entertaining evening with a high profile guest speaker.

Thursday 10th September 2020
6.30pm - 11.00pm
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Glasgow Central

Entry Process

Judging of the Deals & Dealmakers Awards is conducted by an independent panel of experts.

When a registration for entry has been submitted, a questionnaire will be provided within 1-2 working days and must be completed and returned by closing date Wednesday 20th May. Judging for all award categories is extremely thorough. The information provided will be collated and followed by a short listing by our panel. If the nominated company/individual moves forward to the next stage, representatives will be invited to attend an interview in front of the judging panel.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 23rd June and we would appreciate that a representative(s) of the company is available on this date.

Please note that in order to receive questionnaire, the submission form should be completed by Friday 15th May.

Fred MacAulay

Fred MacAulay

Having presented the very funny and eventful MacAulay and Co. on BBC Radio Scotland for almost 18 years and with a string of TV appearances, Fred’s on air witticisms and on screen reputation are the product of years of experience on the live circuit, including a stint as the first ever-Scottish compere at the Comedy Store in London.

Arriving late to the world of stand-up comedy in the early 90’s, he has gone on to be a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe (this will be his 29th) and at comedy festivals worldwide. Appearances on many Radio 4 comedy panel shows including I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, Just A Minute, The Unbelievable Truth and The News Quiz guarantee an audience for Fred’s Live stand-up tours.

Colin Maclachlan

Colin Maclachlan

Colin joined the army in 1989 and after 9 years in the Royal Scots passed selection first time aged 23 into 22 SAS. Colin was fortunate enough to have been involved in some of the more high profile and daring missions of the recent period. Only a handful of men have been involved in hostage negotiations, hostage rescue and been a hostage themselves and Colin is one of them. He waded through stinking swamps in Sierra Leone in West Africa to hunt down the West Side Boys, a guerilla gang holding five British soldiers hostage. It was a mission so daring and dangerous they nicknamed it Operation Certain Death. The SAS recce teams secured the hostages' building and neutralised any West Side Boys prior to the main assault arriving and secured the prison building before the rest of the unit arrived wiping out the terrorists in 2000.

He was also the first sniper on the scene when a hijacked Afghan flight with 180 passengers landed in London in the same year, sparking a stand-off that lasted four days and was the longest standing hostage siege on UK soil to date. But four years later Colin found himself on the other side of a rescue mission after he was taken hostage in the Iraqi city of Basra. Blindfolded, battered and stripped naked, he felt a gun pressed to his head and heard them pull the trigger in what was a mock execution. Father-of-two Colin only survived long enough for British troops to rescue him because the terrorists who held him wanted to film his suffering in a propaganda video before they executed him.

Colin left the SAS shortly after doing an exchange programme with both Delta Force and Seal Team 6 and after doing security consultancy for the Saudi Royal Family, A-List Celebrities and US Media Networks decided to fund himself through university where he attained a First Class MA (Hons.) in History from Edinburgh University and an M.Litt in Terrorism from St. Andrews University. Since leaving the SAS Colin appeared on Channel 4‘s SAS: Who Dares Wins where he, alongside a number of other former SAS members, put members of the public through the same selection process he went through many years before when starting out in the SAS. Colin is now involved in TV, Book, Radio and Video Games and also does a lot with charity being involved as Ambassador for the Lee Rigby Foundation, Pilgrim Bandits and NSPCC among others. He has also just founded his own charity Who Dares Cares that aims to link and support veterans as well as others that encounter stress.
